Made to last Corporate responsibility

Responsible business is
good business

Responsibility and sustainability have always been at the heart of Clarks. From our beginnings, when a desire to prevent waste saw us craft our first pairs of shoes almost 200 hundred years ago, right through to present day, when we are working continuously to reduce our footprint.

Over 90% of our leather is sourced from Gold, Silver and Bronze rated tanneries

Our ShoeShare scheme has diverted 1700 tonnes of shoes from landfill

We source renewable electricity for over 80% of our sites in Europe

Our approach

We're the world's number one in everyday footwear - a global company that designs and sells more than 45 million pairs of shoes each year. We've grown massively since our founders, Cyrus and James Clark, began making sheepskin slippers in 1825, and our operation now extends to the Americas, Europe and Asia. The principles which helped us become a trusted global brand remain the same though, giving us the opportunity to continually demonstrate our responsibility towards people and planet.

We are also proud supporters of the British Retail Consortium’s Better Retail Better World initiative. This allows us to integrate the way we do business into the UN Sustainable Development Goals relevant to our industry and our operations. Based on the work of the BRC, we’ve identified 5 priority SDGs for action.

  1. Decent Work And Economic Growth
  2. Reduced Inequalities
  3. Sustainable Cities and Communities
  4. Responsible Consumption And Production
  5. Climate Action
